"Souper" Bowl Sunday

Posted on Mon, Jan 31, 2011

Hello All You Super Bowl and Souper Bowl Fans!!!!

Just a reminder that the Youth of Vance are Participating in the "Souper Bowl of Caring" to help stomp-out hunger.  They will be in the back of the church with soup pots after worship services this Sunday, February 6th, to collect monetary donations.  So remember -- as you are picking up popcorn, chips, shrimp trays, beverages and all the other snacks that His blessings have made possible -- there are many families experiencing hunger due to various situations, and we have another opportunity to answer His call. A check will be cut for the sum collected; the total will go to The Soup Kitchen of Greater Wheeling to help fulfill the growing need of hunger in the Wheeling area.  May God bless our gifts.

More about the Souper Bowl of Caring:  The Souper Bowl of Caring is a grassroots, faith-based crusade against hunger.  We are joining other churches, schools, organizations and individuals across the country to fight hunger and poverty by collecting dollars in soup pots on February 6th.  What is collected stays in the community to help fight hunger, but we report our total to the Souper Bowl of Caring headquarters so that they can come up with a grand total.

Rev. Dr. Brad Smith, the founder of Souper Bowl of Caring, said, "It is a way for young people to put God's love into action by developing a heart for helping others.  The goal is for these young people to see they can make a difference and for them to continue contributing through volunteerism when they reach adulthood."

In 2010, over 13,000 groups raised over $10 million for soup kitchens, food banks and other helping charities.  Since the Souper Bowl of Caring began in 1990, over $60 million has been given to help those in need.  The Souper Bowl of Caring most often benefits local food banks and soup kitchens, but world hunger organizations, denominational missions and other international ministries have also been recipients of Souper Bowl of Caring dollars.

If you'd like to take it one step further...The Vance Souper Volunteers roll up their sleeves every 3rd Tuesday at the Soup Kitchen between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.  For more information contact the Vance office or see Pastor Chuck!!!

AND MAY THE SOUPER BOWL OF CARING TEAM WIN !!!!
