My days as the Interim Pastor of Vance are numbered.

Preparing a congregation for change of its pastor requires experimenting with change and empowering Session to assume its rightful leadership roles in the life of Vance Church. The committees and commissions have changed. The Deacons have stepped up to a new level of service. The staff has changed dramatically since my arrival and is continuing to evolve.

If Vance Memorial Church doesn't look or feel like the same old place, that is a good thing. Churches need to know what their core values are that do not change, and engage the rest of their activities in dynamic ways that do change.

Vance Church has never belonged to me as the Senior Pastor, and it doesn't belong to the Session--although both they and I serve this Church.

Vance Church belongs to Jesus and a few of his disciples who have chosen to work, worship, marry, baptize, teach, celebrate, and mourn together here at the intersection of National Road and Bethany Pike in Wheeling, WV.
